What’s next? Have you been asking that? It seems like we and our world are being hit by one problem after another. In difficult times, it’s hard not to ask, “What’s next?” Even in good times, it’s great to have something to look forward to. We’re always looking ahead to the next party or game or vacation. What’s next? That’s why many of us are pretty discouraged right now. There’s so much uncertainty. What can we look forward to? Maybe it seems like nothing’s next except more frustration or pain or difficulty.
That’s not true! The apostle Paul knew exactly what was next for him and every believer in Jesus: “Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8). What’s next? The crown of righteousness! Eternal life in heaven is sure and certain for every believer in Jesus. Because that crown of righteousness doesn’t depend on us. It’s God’s gift to everyone who has faith in Jesus. I don’t know what today—or the rest of this year—is going to bring. But I do know what eternity will bring: Heaven! May God’s promise fill you with hope and certainty. You know what’s next!

Thank you Pastor Nass for your devotion this morning. Yes during these times of civil disobedience I have been asking myself this very question. Thank you for once again helping me to focus my thoughts on Jesus and my eternal home.

There are so many concerning things in our world that worry us and take our focus off of Jesus. How good to know that there is a crown of righteousness waiting for us in heaven! May God keep our eyes focused on Jesus and his love for us.
