Raining Flowers

Without rain and storms, there are no flowers.

All we want are sunny days, right? No rain. No storms. No clouds. Just a bright, blue sunny sky. Ironically, there are places in the world where it is sunny all the time. Know where? The desert! The sky may be blue all the time, but the ground is dead and dry and brown. If you want to see flowers and green grass and beautiful trees, you need rain and storms.

That’s not just true in nature. That’s also true in life.

Have you noticed how God has a habit of using the worst difficulties to bring about the greatest good? A believer in God named Joseph once rose to be the second-in-command of Egypt. Know how he got to such a powerful position? He was sold into slavery by his brothers, falsely accused of sexual harassment, and thrown in jail for years. Does that sound nice and sunny? No way! But here’s what Joseph said after all the storms had passed, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good” (Genesis 50:20).

Kind of like Good Friday. Remember that day? Jesus was beaten and nailed to a cross. The sun stopped shining. Everyone cried. Yet, what was God doing? Saving the world from sin and death!

When the rain and storms come in your life, remember this: God is raining flowers. Whatever harm you face is nothing compared to the good God has in store for you.
