Refuge in the Truth

There was a huge problem in ancient Israel: “We have made a lie our refuge and falsehood our hiding place” (Isaiah 28:15). Does that sound familiar? The truth of God is constantly under attack. Instead of following God’s Word, we take refuge in the lies that we—or our leaders—invent to excuse sinful thoughts and behaviors. “We have made a lie our refuge.” Is that true today?

God offers us a different foundation: “This is what the Sovereign LORD says: ‘See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic” (Isaiah 28:16). Do you know whom that’s talking about? Who the true Cornerstone is? It’s Jesus! Jesus is our sure foundation. The one who relies on Jesus will never panic.

Jesus doesn’t make up lies to excuse our sins. Jesus died on the cross to take our sins away. Jesus doesn’t make false promises to get our allegiance. Jesus wins over our hearts with his amazing grace.

What you build your life on matters. Are you listening to liars? Turn them off. Is your heart stricken with panic over what’s going to happen next? You must not be leaning on the sure foundation. There is only One who holds the world in his hands. There is only One who always speaks the truth. In a world full of lies, find your refuge in the truth of Jesus.
