Here’s an irony in life: There are 80-year olds who are full of life and hope and vigor, even though their bodies are wasting away. And there are teenagers who have no energy or purpose, even though their bodies are as strong as they will ever be. Have you noticed that?
The Bible explains, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).
Outwardly we are wasting away. You can’t deny it. Your body is breaking down. Each year brings new aches and pains and maybe even serious complications. Outwardly we are wasting away.
Yet, when you have faith in Jesus, inwardly we are being renewed day by day. Your soul doesn’t age. It’s made to live forever! The message that Jesus has forgiven all your sins never gets old. The promise of eternal life in heaven means you always have hope. The mission to live your life for the glory of God means that every day has meaning and purpose.
This is why you see retirees filled with hope and vigor. Why? Because their souls are filled with Christ. Sadly, this is also why you see teenagers without purpose. Why? Because their souls are empty. Every one of us is wasting away on the outside. Do you want to be forever young? Listen to Jesus’ Word and promises every day, and you’ll find that inwardly you are being renewed day by day.
