Whose glory are you seeking today? Whom do you want to make look good? Whom do you want people to praise? Whom do you want to draw attention to? Each day, we’re seeking glory for someone.
If we’re honest, usually that person is me. It’s you. Isn’t it? How many of our words and actions cry out, “Look at me! Look at what I can do! Praise me!”
Jesus has some convicting words for us. It’s like a little test for our hearts. He once said, “Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth” (John 7:18). How do you know if someone is a man or woman of truth? That person seeks God’s glory. That person yearns for God to be praised. That person’s life is like a billboard pointing to Jesus: “Look at him! Look at what he’s done! Praise Jesus!”
Do you know who empowers us to seek Jesus’ glory? Jesus does! Jesus looks at you all the time. Jesus loves every little act of faith you do. Jesus forgives every sin you commit. Jesus treasures you like a father treasures his child. Jesus dreams dreams for you like a mother for her child.
When you realize how highly Jesus thinks of you, you never have to seek glory for yourself again. Instead, you can seek the glory of the One who died for you.
