Some things are for God to know, and some things are for us to know. That reality is one of the hardest parts of being a Christian.
We want to know everything. We want to know why we’re facing this difficulty. We want to know what the future will hold. We want to know how each option will work out before making a decision. We want to know why God lets evil people have so much power. We want to know everything.
But some things are for God to know: “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law” (Deuteronomy 29:29). There are secret things that belong to the Lord and not to us. Faith trusts in God even when it can’t see. Faith trusts that God knows what we don’t know.
Yet, there are things for us to know. Which things? All the things that God has revealed to us in his Word! Instead of longing to know the unknowable, focus your energy on learning what God has revealed to us: Sin, grace, faith, baptism, the Lord’s Supper, forgiveness, eternal life, the death and resurrection of Jesus, the Holy Spirit… It takes a lifetime to learn what God has written in the Bible.
The secret things belong to the Lord, so fill your heart and mind with what he has revealed in his Word.
