Integrity

Integrity is on a lot of people’s minds. How would you define it? What does “integrity” look like in a leader? Daniel in the Bible provides an excellent example. When he rose to a position of power in the Persian empire, his enemies were jealous. Here’s what happened: “At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. Finally these men said, ‘We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God’” (Daniel 6:4-5).

That’s integrity, isn’t it? As Daniel’s enemies scoured his life looking for reasons to accuse him, all they could find was this: He believed in God. Unlike so many governmental officials both then and now, Daniel wasn’t corrupt or negligent. Instead, he was trustworthy. With God’s strength, he did what was right and true. May God grant that integrity in our lives too! You and I aren’t perfect. Daniel wasn’t either. We depend every day on the forgiveness found in Jesus. But wouldn’t it be great if people couldn’t find anything against us except our trust in God? May God give us the gift of integrity.
