Hope and a Future

What’s going to happen in the future? I have some bad news for you today: The groundhog doesn’t know. Punxsutawney Phil—and his shadow!—have no idea what the rest of winter is going to bring. Actually, it gets even worse: You don’t know either. How much of our lives are spent making our plans? Pretending that we know how our lives should play out? How often do your plans work out? If your life is like mine, almost never! We’re not even sure what the weather’s going to be like tomorrow.

But God is. In fact, he can predict way more than just six weeks out. He’s planned out the future—all of it! Here’s his promise: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11). Regardless of what the groundhog sees or doesn’t see, you can be sure of what’s coming: Six more weeks of God’s love and grace and forgiveness in Jesus. And then six more. And six more. And six more. Forever! The God who made you and saved you and loves you has plans for you. Plans to give you hope and a future!
